[Hope had gotten up early this morning. After speaking to Lightning on the phone everyday since he arrived? The anticipation of seeing her again was making him fidget. His Absol was standing down by his feet. Watching him pace.

Hope is basically waiting for his welcome wagon to arrive. Feel free to stop by and poke him, call him on the cell or whatever you please really.]

I just told you I'd go get my keyblade, right?

[Perhaps he only thought he did? Maybe...]

It's...I mean, it's not a real one, but it's easier to show you than try to explain it.

[Last time, when he and Hope were new to this world, he had to draw one in the dirt... And he remembers the funny look that got. He's no great artist]

Yeah, but I could have come with.

A real one is different then? Like how?

[He asked curiously, following him into the inn.]

[Ven says that as he heads upstairs, counting off room numbers. Where was his again..?]

Keyblades are...they're connected to the wielder's heart. The real deal, I can call it anywhere, and it'll always come back to me. It's also the only weapon that can put a stop to Heartless.

Heartless?

[That sounded... quite freaky.]

[He's never quite gotten a handle on the lingo, but he sure tries not to butcher the pronunciation while keeping his voice down]

Heartless were people too, but the rest's different I think. They're people who lost their hearts to darkness. After that happens, they forget who they were, and all they can think about is having a heart again...so they attack people.

[When he finds the right door, he tugs a key from his pocket to unlock it]

... Turned into a monster by something that wasn't their fault.

[... That was probably the most bitter you've heard him.]

It sounds like a Cie'th yeah.

[He nods as he nudges the door open, heading into the room]

Sometimes, anyway. Some people choose to pursue darkness, or think they can control it.

... Why? If it's so dangerous? No-one goes looking to become a L'Cie, even though you become powerful.

[He shakes his head.]

I don't understand a lot of people.

[Ven can only shrug at that]

Power's honestly my best guess. My first Master was obsessed with darkness, he almost got me killed trying to get me in on it.

[Not to mention what that was supposed to be for, but Ven'll leave it at that for now, crossing the room to pick up his backpack]

He tried to give you to the darkness? Get you killed by it?

[Hope blinks.]

That's... awful!

Not exactly. He wanted me to rely on darkness, use it like he did....

I guess, in a way, it is giving a person to it. But he's done worse things to other people, like Master Eraqus. He's the one who trained me after all that.

[Some rifling around and, ta-da~ A giant wooden skeleton key]

Masters train apprentices like me to use keyblades, like this. Well, this is as close as I get here, anyway.

Woah. I was expecting...

I can't imagine it being... practical in combat though. Surely the weight would throw you off?

If you think this is big, you oughta see Terra's, it's huge.

[Ven swings the wooden weapon around, sure to avoid the general direction of Hope. And they're odd swings indeed, as he wields it backhand]

My keyblade's not very heavy at all. Maybe it's because they're not normal weapons, but I've never had a problem with weight.

I guess. Then again I'm used to boomerangs. They have to be light for them to work.

[He smiles.]

Your style is unusual.

Yeah, I've heard it's kind of weird. Of the people I've met here who could summon keyblades, I'm the only one who does it this way.

Come to think of it, you're the first person I met who used a boomerang.

Boomerangs are pretty unique huh?

[That made him a little bit happier.]

I guess that's a little bit like pokemon. There's different styles and stuff.

[And a happy Hope is the best kind of Hope]

That's for sure. Even two Pikachus can know different moves and fight differently, and have different strong suits.

So... if we both got the same pokémon, the way we train it could make it different?

[He nods]

Uh-huh. And they have different natures, which affect what they're best at too. Kind of like how I'm quick and you're good with magic.

That's so odd.

[Well. Sort of.]

Well not really. But... I guess it's kind of strange?

It takes a while to get used to, but I just look at them as being sort of like people. Even if some of us look the same, it doesn't always mean we are.

I guess.

[And there is a big smile.]

Course, there's a whole lot we don't know. Maybe you'll uncover some new stuff, yourself.
